Amethyst Place

Amethyst Place is the product of community leaders banding together in 1989 to help single mothers and their children overcome damaging generational cycles of substance use. Due to lack of safe housing after treatment, these women had no choice but to return to the same communities where their substance use began, threatening their recovery and the stability of their families. Founded in May 2000 by task force members, Amethyst Place has filled this gap for over 24 years and has been home to over 384 families, including 742 children.

Community Services League

With more than a century of service, Community Services League has made meaningful and lasting change in the lives of our neighbors living in Eastern Jackson County and beyond.  We do it by providing help today for those struggling to make ends meet. Through those relationships, we offer hope for tomorrow while making connections to coaches who care and resources to build financial stability and self-sufficiency.  Each year we provide integrated, life changing services to nearly 20,000 individuals, and connect thousands more to temporary assistance to get through tough economic times.  It’s a mission built on Bess Truman’s legacy of caring for neighbors in need.  A mission that continues, with a passion that is as strong as ever.

Flourish Furniture Bank

Flourish, Kansas City’s furniture bank, partners with social service agencies providing wrap-around services to empower families overcoming housing insecurity.   By collecting, repairing, and providing donated furniture and home essentials for the entire home, Flourish impacts lives.

Pawsperity

Since 2016, Pawsperity has been helping uplift families from generational poverty through job training in the art of dog grooming.

The idea came from a collision of worlds from Natasha Herdman, Founding CEO. In 2011, while working with homeless families in Kansas City, Herdman was examining all the barriers these families had to secure employment. She took a call from her mother, a lifelong pet groomer in Iowa, who told her that she would take any warm body who walked through the door—she just needed someone.

Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund

Legend has it that during his tenure as Mayor of Kansas City in the late 1870s, George Shelley purchased the first Mayor’s Christmas Tree on his own dime for all to enjoy and distributed food baskets to the poor. Since then, the tradition has continued – being handed down from mayor to mayor ever since.

Science City

Kansas City’s Favorite Family-Friendly Attraction. For our youngest of explorers and beyond, Science City is THE place to experience the amazing world of science first-hand. Indoors. Outdoors. Through fun and engaging exhibits and educator-led programs and activities. Your lifelong love of science, learning, and discovery begins here.

Church World Service

Our vision is a world where everyone has food, voice and a safe place to call home. We’ve been working to make this a reality for more than 75 years, and we know it’s possible. We’ve welcomed thousands of refugees and other new neighbors into our communities, helped countless families put food on the table and lifted the voices of people who have been left out.

American Red Cross

Each day, thousands of people – people just like you – provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world.

We roll up our sleeves and donate time, money and blood. We learn or teach life-saving skills so our communities can be better prepared when the need arises. We do this every day because the Red Cross is needed – every day.
